Default Windows Media Player and Streaming Mpeg's.

Hey, I've been having a problem recently where Windows Media Player is refuuuusing to stream MPEG files as it does with WMV's and AVI's. Say I click on the link...

http://www.lovleywebsite.com/stuff/w...r/lettuce.mpeg ...

Windows Media Player opens, displays "connecting" (untill the file has downloading I'm thinking) and then it freezes. I can hear the sound playing in the background but the video hangs on the final frame. I cannot move the time slider at all and have to either download the video before watching it, or double click it from my temporary internet files. So far I've tried re-installing windows media player, removing a bunch of other codecs and re-installing them one by one checking for conflictions aaaand sort of jumping around in a fustrated manner. None of which have worked.

I have had this problem before on my old computer and have recently encountered it here. I'm not sure what could be causing it, anyone got any ideas?

 Hey Copsh,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, and I am sure we will be able to help you figure this out.

Let's start by ruling out malware as a culprit. Can you please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, make sure to save the log from ewido, and post it and the HijackThis log back here.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi Copsh, Welcome to PCHF!!!

Do you have Quicktime installed?

Try installing the Quicktime Player, you might have better luck with that.

 Hey Guys,

D_A_R, I really think it's a good idea to start by checking for malware. Just in case, we don't want to include yet another component to the equation.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses! I've followed your instructions and attacked a HJT this log. Ewido returned nothing, so I felt no need to post a log.

I do have Quicktime installed, but like WMP it doesn't actually stream videos only downloads them for me and opens them.
