Im abit curious about this entry:

O4 - Startup: ramopt.lnk = D:\Program Files\RAM Optimizer\esramopt.exe

"esramopt.exe" doesn't seem to exist. Do you know this app youreself?

And to check , can you upload this file:

D:\Program Files\RAM Optimizer\esramopt.exe

to this site:

http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

and report back the result?

IN reply to Lady Greenwich. I told ewido to fix everything. It was all cookies. I don't think I missed any.

In reply to Joe5, esramopt.exe is a ram optimizer program by KISS software that I have used since my first Windows 95 computer without problems.
This is the readme file that came with Ram Optimizer:

<<<<<
Thank you for purchasing Kissco's RAM Optimizer utility, which allows you to instantly free up memory when your system begins to bog down. Safely:

- Increase available RAM for applications and the Windows O/S
- Defragment system memory
- Recover RAM leaks from poorly written applications

RAM Optimizer is a System Tray based application, meaning that it runs automatically, behind the scenes. Of course you can always elect to run it manually if you wish -- simply right click on the icon and choose to open the program. This is also where you can customize the Ram Optimization settings.

For more information, please visit www.ramoptimizer.com
>>>>>

I have scanned estramot.exe with PC-cillin my anti virus program and it found nothing and have uploaded it to Virustotal. Every anti virus program on their list except one, CAT QuickHeal found no viruses. CAT QuickHeal found CAT-QuickHeal8.0002.25.2006(Suspicious) - DNAScan I don't know what that means.

 Hey Guys,

@Serena, great job knowing so much about your PC. Don't worry about the CAT reading, it seems that it considers any packed file suspicious. I am a bit concerned that ewido was unable to remove so many tracking cookies. They should be a slam dunk.

Please download the trial version of Spy Sweeper. I would like you to boot into Safe Mode, make sure that your System Restore is still disabled. Continually tap F8 during boot up until a menu comes up, or your computer beeps. Using your arrow keys, choose Safe Mode, then click on enter.

Run CCleaner again, with the same instructions as before. Next install and run Spy Sweeper. Under Options, Sweep Options tab, make sure that everything is selected under What to Sweep except Do Not Sweep Restore Files. Click on Sweep, Start. Let it fix everything that it finds. Run CCleaner again, and reboot your computer into Normal Mode. Please run HijackThis again and post the new log.

Look foreward to your reply,

TTFN

I am confused. Does Win 2000 HAVE system restore? Also I removed all the tracking cookies that ewido found in Mozilla as well as all the other cookies etc that CCleaner removed. Did you see others in the log file? I have Zone Alarm but haven't installed it yet. Maybe that will be next? I have downloaded Spy Sweeper but haven't installed it yet. Will do that this evening and get back to you. Thanks for all your help.

 YES Definitely install the firewall! LOL. You are right, I always think that because it was in ME it was also in 2000. So you can skip that part.

Will look forward to your post.

I followed all your last instructions re CCleaner and Spy Sweeper and the new Hijack This log. I am attaching them to this message.

I don't know if I told you that Windows Explorer crashes quite often when running in my regular system. It didn't seem to do it in Safe Mode so I am suspecting a conflict someplace. When it crashes it takes most of the stuff that is in my tray with it, ie the icons vanish from the tray. Are the programs unloaded or is it just that the icons are no longer there?

Do all the icons come back immediately , or do they stay gone? Normally if just explorer crashes and restarts , then the programs keep running.

And no problems in youre logs.

Im sure the memoptimizer is legit since you used it for so long , but how old is it? And has it been updated? It sounds like it is an really old app , thats probebly why i couldn't find anything on it , but is it suiteble for running under XP? If not , then that might be the cause of youre problems.
