Default Windows XP Troubles

Well right now I am having troubles with windows xp. When I start my PC the mouse pointer works fine but after I click but after that the graphical pointer for the mouse doesn't move at all so I have to either not use the mouse or guess where it is on a button... I cannot for the life of me get this problem fixed... Any ideas on how I can fix this? I am also having a couple problems with my sound card, I installed drivers for it and everything, but for some reason windows doesn't sound right... it sounds really bogged down and breaks up sounds... so some general troubles

Welcome to PCHF Jerry,

You definately have some weird things happening over there .

It sounds like something is conflicting, could you try and boot into safemode and see whether your mouse works perfectly in there.
  • Is it only the mouse pointer that freezes or does the whole PC freeze?
  • I recommend booting into safemode and going into device manager, then delete/uninstall your mouse from there as well as your sound card.
  • Reboot your PC and it should automatically reinstall both sets of drivers.
Could you post the exact make/model of your soundcard or motherboard if it is onboard.
Are you using a USB mouse?

The mouse pointer freeze, but I can still move the mouse... but the graphical representation of the mouse doesn't move. Like a invisimouse :P My sound card is on board, a Asus A8V Deluxe Motherboard. And no it is a PS2 mouse, although I have tried 5 different mouses and they all have the same trouble. I'll try reinstalling them. I tried and I tried awhile ago and I ended up just reformatting windows, and it worked for awhile... them poof.. broke again Funny thing is, Linux works perfectly with sound + mouse lol.

It may be an incorrect driver causing this, would you be able to download and install the following driver:It might be worth installing this 4in1 driver as well:What video card are you currently using, could you download and install the latest driver for it as well.

If none of this works then click on Prework in my signature and follow the instructions, post the appropriate log files once finished.

And are you using the standard set of mouse pointers?
