Exclamation problem with usb devices

I am having a problem with any usb dvice eg, ipod, memory stick. when i put into my computer windows recognises the device but they will not appear in my computer and itunes does not recognise my ipod. They do appear in device manager.

can anybody help please?

some times you will need a reboot, Also make sure you are an administrator or some user that gives you the power to access such device.

thanks, but i have tried that, also tried uninstalling the drivers and using different usb ports.

Have you tried the device in another PC?
Also, you say it does appear in Device Manager, doesn't it say there are any conflicts?

yeah all the devices work in other pc's, device manager says that the device is working correctly. my mouse and modem are still both working (both usb) but it appears the problem is with devices the computer recognises as usb mass storage devices.

Have they worked before in that pc? And if yes , did you change or install anything when the problem started?

Also is windows updated?

yes they used to work fine. my flatmate installed software for his creative zen media player which may have caused the problem i have since uninstalled that software but no change.
