Hi,

I'm running on a Dell with Windows XP Home.

I need to get into a marketing site that requires Internet Explorer 6. My wife's computer (the Dell) has IE5 and I trued to run the updater, which gave me a message that "A previous installation has pending work that requires a reboot...the updater will now close."

I did a search to try to find this previous install but couldn't. IE5 is now freezing on me (requiring restart), as is the updater when I try to launch into the Microsoft site. I tried MSN Explorer and it also froze.

So, now I don't know what to do. Freezes, can't update, I'm stuck.

I'm a Windows newbie, more or less, so please give any instructions as if you're talking to somebody with v-e-r-y little experience. I can navigate around okay, but I don't know .dos from .ini, etc., etc.

Do you have any ideas on how I can get around this and solve this problem?

First try to delete the contents of:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

And then try to update again.
