Default PC Keeps Crashing. No idea what to do!!

Hello everyone,

Now this problem is very annoying. I shall begin by explaining the problem first. Basically, when i launch xp everything starts up fine. Nothing bad happens until i click on a shortcut. Applications take about 30 seconds to load. Whenever i click a link on the start menu (you know it usually highlights blue) it stays higlighted for aout 30 seconds. And then the application loads up. Basically everything is very slow, and i get a load of crashes and freezes.

Recently i had sent my computer to a repair shop, to get it fixed from a previous problem. They ripped me off big time. LOL. Anywayz they replaced the motherboard with a new ASUS Av7880 or something. Upon return i installed a new graphics card from a NVIDIA Geforce 5200xp to a ATi 9600xt 256mb 128bit card.

The problem began when i installed the new software for it drivers and all. Now this problem occurs and i can't fix it. I tried rolling back the driver. No luck. I scanned for spyware and adware and Viruses. Nothing.
I tried testing for memory leaks and problems with my memory. Nothing. I tried resetting the bios. Nothing. I have tried updating the ATi driver. Nothing. I cleaned the registry. Nothing.

Nothing...Nothing...Nothing...

I have been told on other forums that my current motherboard is very suseptable to problems, as my cpu has problems going over 1.15ghx, which is the bios standard. See below what my specs are.

So if anyone here has the foggiest what to do then please step forward.

Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Asus A7V880 or AV7880 (One or the other!)
2 x 512mb RAM (PC2700 i think)
Windows XP SP2
ATi 9600xt 256mb 128bit

If anyone needs any other info, feel free to ask.

Thanks for any help in advance!!

Hi Titch!
Welcome to PC Help Forum!

I think clock speed 1,15Ghz is not right on this processor though?
So you adjusted the speeds in the BIOS and now you get those problems?

I'm pretty sure you got the A7V880, because my friend has the same processor on a A7V8X-X.
Could it be an overheating problem?

Hello all,

I solved my own problem which is a bit strange. I uninstalled my graphics card and reinstalled it, making sure ervything was deleted so nothing would conflict. Now my waiting problems are over.

However i still have the problem of getting my processor up to speed. The A7V880 which Bluefish kindly corrected for me, doesn't lock the multiplyers at all. There is no heat problem that i know of. Running between 30 and 40 degrees on standstill. I put it at 12.5X multiplyer and 166mhz frequency and all i got was some clicky sounds. The CMOS then reset itself and i had to fill in the dates.

Very odd...

Any help is kindly appreciated.
