Default [Answered] no sound

yesterday i had a problem with my pc so i put in my windows boot disk pressed r for repair and now i pretty much have a new pc with all my old files on it but for some reason i cant hear any sound (yes i have checked that nothing was on mute) i went into the control panel and looked under the sound section, it says that my computer does not have an audio device, what am i supposed to do? before i repaired i could hear everything just fine, do i need a driver to update or what?

Howdy again cso.dave,
Did your pc come with a driver cd?
And can you go into your device manager and see if your sound card is indeed installed. If not there will be a yellow mark or red mark next to it. Right click it and uninstall it and reboot. This should let XP reinstall the sound card

Hello Dave,

It sounds like your computer is without a sound driver. 1st thing you should do is see if you have resource CD with the drivers on them. if not, go to windows update and check to see if it is there. if not there and you have intregrated sound (audio ports on Motherboard) check your motherboard site for a driver. if you have a 3 party sound device (Turtle beach, Creative) check their sites for drivers.
