Thumbs down "My Computer" window open on startup

Hi Guys,

I am turning to your inspired knowledge again as you resolved my previous problem with a PC.

I am trying to clean up my Uncle's PC of Spyware/malware, etc. I have pretty much suceeded but I am still left with one niggling problem I cannot seem to find an answer to.

Whenever the computer boots up, upon entering the Windows XP desktop within a few seconds the "My Computer" window, containing the Drive icons, etc appears as an open window which you then have to close. It dosen't stop you doing any work or anything and is useful if I want to browse a drive straight away but I would much prefer to get rid of this "feature" altogether and just boot to the Windows desktop as normal.

I have done all the "Prework" options as often suggested and this has cleaned up all of the spyware and malware that was on the PC, but I am now at a loss as to how to resolve this final problem.

For your information I have installed and used:

CCleaner
Ewido Security Suite
AdAware SE Personal
Spybot Search and Destroy

and finally one of my own cleanup favourites:
Registry Repair 2006

A "HiJack This" log of the current PC settings is attached.

Any ideas on what to try next anyone?

Howdy Tiffer,
As I did a quick look though your log I seen this

SPMSMON.EXE. This can cause problems with your "My Computer" Opening. I will look hrough it more now but in the meantime can you disable that and see if it helps your peoblem.

Otherwise your log looks clean besides this you can have hjt clean

O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)

Wow! Cheers Merlin...you really live up to your reputation! Solved the problem with your suggestion straight away. I will also let HJThis delete the File reference you suggested.

Many thanks again for your help.
