Angry [Resolved] problem with my modem/internet

hi
i didnt know where 2 put this cause i checked hardware and there was no modem section.

ive got a conexant chip zoltrix modem.
uptill last week it was connecting at 50.6kbps but now it connects at 24kbps which is v.v.v. slow.
i dont know wat went wrong.
my brother also has his own pc and uses internet on the same line as i do and the strange thing is that when i connect his wire in my modem it works perfectly and when i come back to my own phone wire its the same old 24kbps.
this problem is driving me crazy.
here is the stuff ive tried:
1) ive un installed and then reinstalled the driver.
2)ive bought a new phone line .
3) ive also changed my modem slot.
4) ive also checked another modem on my system.
5)ive formatted my system and reinstalled the OS.

all these methods did not work

can ne1 help me.

Hi Faraz_86, welcome to the PCHF forum and enjoy your stay here.

There are 2 suggestions, first one is that maybe due to the fact that your room does not have a microfilter, the speed gets reduce.

Secondly, the problem may be due to the wiring of the wire in your room. I suggest asking a technician to check the wiring of the line.

Matt

Howdy faraz_k86,
Have you looked in your modem properties and see what connection speeds it is on?

A micro filter is for some phone lines with DSL and Dial up to boost signal strenth and filter out unwanted static.

Aslo what ISP are you using.. AOL etc..

Hi Faraz_k86

I've seen your new post about "dialup" and I think it might be related to the same problem you are having here, could you answer a couple of my questions:
  • Are you and your brother in different rooms?
  • You say you are using the same phone line, how has the cable been split?
  • Who split the cable?
It sounds like a faulty connection, depending on how the cable has been split could you try replacing it with a new cable and then testing the connection.

If you connect at 56k with your brothers cable (which is on the same line) then there would be an issue with your cable.

This could also be causing your modem to disconnect every couple of minutes.

thankyou for finally replying zimbo.

here are the answers 2 ur questions.
1) yes we are in different rooms.

2)we are using the same phoneline, my way is at the end of the hall whereas his is the first room , so he removed the insulation from the wire near his room and connected his modem directly to it. (the strange thing is that i have also tried to connect my modem to that bare area of the wire but this way both computers connect at 24 kbps).

3)my bro split the cable as explained above.

P.S. I have also bought a brand new wire and connected it but still the same problem.

@ zimbo.

regarding my new post "dialup problem" this problem appears to be in windows cause it suddenly started happening i am having this pathetic connection speed for 3 months now but this never happened. if u see the pics again the entire dialup window has changed to something else, and y is the phoneling given busy in windows xp but i can connect at that slow 24kbps in windows 98(same cpu). so it must b windows xp.

plz help!!!
