Default startup takes forever

Recently the startup is taking alot longer than normal.I have used ccleaner to trim the amount of programs in startup but some of them keep coming back like messenger and quicktime. The list i've given are programs that are checked in msconfig and i am not sure if they need to run at startup or can they be taken off without something happening. Also is it ok to delete the .pf files in prefetch to speed up startup?

Howdy GlasgowDave.
In reality the prefecth is there to help speed up the starup. It keeps all your files in order. Usually when you have some type of malware etc we like to clear it but usually you dont have to. Below are a couple of programs to help

http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm (shuts down messenger for good.

Will Help with Bootup time.
Have you defraged latley this will also cause starup to slow down a little.

Edit: After looking at the items you listed you can disable all but ctfmon.. The others are for your extra keyboard buttons.. If you dont use like the volume button on the keyboard it is safe to disable them.

I'm not sure if you have solved your problem, but I too had the same slow boot up problem. IOnce I typedin my password, it would take forever. So, I had a tech guy come over to my house, and he figured it out. If you have a password on your computer, make sure it's short! Mine was 35 characters. I have since changed it, and it's a lot quicker.
Hope this helps,
