PC Shuts down after a crash, how to stop this plz?
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone can help me please.
At the moment i play a game called Dark and Light. When a game use to crash that i was playing it would just take me back to the desktop or i could end the program with CNTR/ALT/DEL.
However recentley when a game crashes on me i get this blue warning screen advising me windos has shut down due to this crash.
The only thing that i have done differentley recentley is buy a new 19 tft monitor and installed the drivers for it.
Could this have done something to my pc so that everytime something goes wrong my pc shuts itself down as a precaution?
Hi Clint Eastwood (the real one? ;-)) and welcome to PCHF,
Hmmmz make sure you've done these things:
-have the latest directX 9.0c i believe
-windows is uptodate
-you have the latest gamepatch installed
-you have the latest drivers for your videocard
-you have configured your videocard for you tft and isntalled the tft
To disable the autorebooting on system errors goto start->control panel->system->advanced->settings (the 'lowest' one at startup and recovery)->uncheck 'reboot the computer (...)'->ok->reboot
good luck, Bram
I had that already unchecked where it says "Automatically Restart" under the systems failure area.
A while back i used a tweaking guide on the net which mentioned unticking that.
I do have the latest drivers for graphics card etc. I can only think that when i installed the various drivers for the monitor that has affected something?
The blue screen is like a dos type screen etc and i have not seen this type of thing in ages to tell you the truth.
I klnow the kind of screen you're talking about and it's most likely a fatal error that's been caused by 'something', most likely wrong drivers or some kind of misconfiguration. A error of that kind cannot be bypassed in any way, windows needs to reboot when it encounters such a serious error. Can you look in the windows system/errorlog and post what's mentioned over there? (control panel->administrative tools->logs->system)
