Default Folder disappeared! Urgent help needed

Hie. I encountered a system file corrupted, think it was c_437.sys file that was corrupted. So I had to reformat my whole comp.
I'm running on windows xp sp 2. I partitioned my drive so that 1 is for back up. I saved all my mp3 songs in the back up driver[D: drive]. while the other main partition is for the operating system[C: drive]. Now, I reformated c drive and leave the D: drive untouched.
But to my dismay, 1 of the folder in D drive (my music folder) turned into an unknown file format! This caused my whole songs files to be 'trapped' in it. The drive summary showed that the music are still in the drive as the disk space doesn't change. So the problem is that the folder path which contains the mp3 had becomed an unknown file format which i cannot open using any programs. when i open with notepad, this is what part of it shows :

Hence I'm sure the songs are still in there.

Can anyone help me with this? How do I restore the folder back? Thanks alot. Please help as soon as possible thanks.

Hi 17osm17!
Welcome to PC Help Forum!

When you right-click on the partition / folder, does it say anything about size? I mean there should be lots of MB's of MP3 in there isn't it?
Could you describe short the way you installed XP on your computer?
