Default System restarts during games

Hello, my boyfriend referred me to this forum in hopes of solving my problem. I hope you can help

Around june/july of this year, my computer would restart in the middle of some of my games. The screen would click off and turn black, then the start up screen appears and when the desktop shows up it says "Windows has recovered from a serious error". I play mostly online games like World of Warcraft and City of Heroes so I understand the stress it puts on my computer but it worked fine up untill then. The problem wasn't as bad as before, but as the months went by it started to happen more freequently. Just a few days ago I tried played Battlefield 2 and a few times the computer would restart just while creating an account, then when I got through that, it restarts every time I try to load a server. My system specs are enough to run the games I play and I replaced my power supply a few days ago and I still have the problem.

Besides the power supply, nothing has changed in my computer. It's been the same since before and after the problem started occuring.

I have a:
Radeon 9600XT 128mb
1024mb of RAM
AMD Athlon xp 2.00ghz
Windows XP Pack2

Can anyone help me?

Hi Invader , welcome to the PCHF forum and hope you like it here.

With regards to your problem, it is mostly a spyware, adware, trojan issue that causes the PC to restart unexpectedly. I know that as last time i have this issue. I suggest downloading the Ad ware Personal to rid the computer of spyware. If the issue really persists, i would suggest a total reformat of computer.

Matt

@Matt , if it looks like mal-ware is the prob then please direct the members to the "Prework" instructions instead of just naming Ad Aware.

And the "total reformat" is advice i dont really like to see , unless it is the last option.. NOT as a first advice without trying a single thing...

Hi there Invader , lets first have a look for heat problems. Can you download one of these apps and report back the tempertures it says?

Sorry, I suddenly fell ill and have been in bed for a few days. I'm feeling a little better now.

I tried Adware and it found around 100+ files and deleted them. My computer still restarts however. I was about to reformat when I came back here good thing I didn't...

Here is what SpeedFan told me

The temps look fine.

Have you tried updating youre drivers , directx , and is windows also updated? And does it only happen when playing online games?

And to have a look for more malware , you could give the "Prework" instructions a try and post the two resulting log files. See link below.

i have seen similar problems occur when the processor or video card is overclocked, not sure if thats what causes it or not, as it doesnt happen all that frequently. is your pc overclocked at all?

what video card do u have?
