 Hi jjtbejazzin,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful tech staff here and I am sure that we can help you sort out how to save your files and reformat.

First, you will need to back up your files before reformatting. All files and programs left on the PC will be erased during the reformatting process. You should be able to burn the files you need onto CDs. Remember, you only need the files with the data stored from your games, not the actual programs, you can reinstall those.

As far as your XP CDs are concerned, you are going to need them. If you registered your copy you can request replacement CDs from Microsoft. One of the other guys may have another option for you.

Do you have a reason for wanting to reformat?

my reason is from another post which i made a while back. My games have not been working, and i contacted the maker of one of the games, True Crime Streets of LA. ACtivision told me a bunch ofthings to do, none of them worked, so finally they asked me to reformat.

Sorry my friend, if you have no manufacturers re-build CD or a Windows XP CD then I'm afraid your re-format/re-build plans are going to fall at the first hurdle.

 If you are the legal owner, you should be able to use the XP Home edition after you reformat. I would recommend following the instructions for XP Install in my signature, you will find that XP works so much better this way.

Be sure to read through the thread thoroughly, and print out the printable version to have with you while you work.

Let us know if you have any questions.
