Windows XP/2000 - reformatting computer but keeping old files posted in the Operating Systems forums; Nope, it will only upgrade your PC from a previous version of Windows...as it's already XP that's a no go I'm afraid....

Nope, it will only upgrade your PC from a previous version of Windows...as it's already XP that's a no go I'm afraid.

I put the windows xp home edition cd in and boot up my computer again, i set my startup to cdrom, and when i get to the part where it tells me to boot from cd by pressing any button, i press any button but the computerjust keeps going on its way and goes to dektop

Is your keyboard a usb? Edit: also, did it by anychance require special drivers?

yes it is connected by usb
no i dont think it required any special drivers

Does the keyboard have an removeble usb converter? If yes , then remove that and connect the keyboard normally.

i have solved my problem. iused another keyboard with a direct computer connection. I now am at the partioning stage and have a 200gb hard drive and do not know how to partion

It should be displayed on screen how to make partitions.

Select the unpartitioned space and press "C" , then select the size you want (in mb's) , repeat that for multiple partitions , when youre done select the first partition and press enter , the formatt process should now start.

PS, you'll need to formatt the other partitions after windows is installed , in "my computer" select the drive , right click and select format.
