Default data recovery problems

after various horrid hard drive problems, i am trying to recover data using stellar phoenix and ontrack. usually, one of these apps successfully recovers all directories i ask it to, but now much of the directory structure and many of the files seem unrecoverable. i don't understand how recovery programs assign the folders of recovered data, with folder namesd like '$$$Folder00603', and how i can restore my original directory structure from there. any thoughts?

As for the directory structure I think a directoryname is created a random to ensure no 'existing' directories are overwritten. Most of the times a directory structure can be recovered but, unfortunately as in your case, sometimes the structure cannot be recovered due to a large ammount of damage to the structure and files. You can try Getdataback for fat or ntfs (not for free) those programs work like a charm for me
