Default Dr. Watson Debugger

Hi all. I did a search but couldn't find any info. I have a new computer with Windows XP Home. After startup it sometimes freezes with the debugger screen and asks to report the error. I reloaded Windows and now it happens occasionally. Recently I tried to defrag my hard drive but it freezes up with the debugger screen again. The only way to unfreeze it is to restart it. It is very frustrating. Any ideas? How do I get rid of the Dr. Watson debugger?

Thanks Cowburn. It's been a couple weeks. I have reinstalled Windows twice and have tried to return to the last good configuration. I am at a loss.

Hi RobK,

It sounds as if your reinstalls have complicated matters, and it would probably be a good thing at this point to reformatt and start fresh.

You will need to back up your personal files before beginning this process, you can simply burn them to a CD, that is usually easiest unless you have a large media cache.

Once backed up, I suggest using the XP Install in my signature. It is a wonderful way to keep XP running smoothly on your PC.

Read through the main version to familiarize yourself, and then print out the printable version to have with you while you go through the process.

Let us know if you need any additional help

Thanks ladygreenwitch. I found a fix for the problem. I was able to run regedit and copy the Hkey to a different file and then delete it from the registry. I can still run the debugger if I choose to because of relocating the file.

You could also turn off the MDB in XP if need be. This will not let it run, and hopefully fix the latter problems as well
