Default [Resolved] Messenger Problems

I had yahoo messenger, but not the latest version. I went to the messenger home page to download the latest version, but it wasn't working. I decided that maybe I needed to uninstall the older version. I did that, went back to try again to install the new version, and still nothing. Then it suggested that I might need Java. Well, then I went to java.com. I tried to download that, but nothing. I tried the manual download, and after many many attempts, I got a part of Java downloaded. The main part of Java I believe. So, then I went back to yahoo, tried again, but now I'm getting a message that says, "Could not load the DLL library. The specified module could not be found." What in the world does that mean? Why am I having so many problems with my computer? I'm getting ready to throw it out the window! Does ANYONE have any suggestions or advice for me??

Hi Ndbigler,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful staff onsite and I am sure we can figure out the source of your headaches.

First of all, can you please follow the instructions in the PreWork link in my signature, and post the two resulting logs back here.

That will give us a really good starting place.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Thanks LGW. I'm pretty computer dumb, so I hope I did this right...

Now what should I do? Are these things I downloaded something I need to use everyday?

 Not at all Ndbiger, and I am sure that if you followed the instructions you did just fine.

The CCleaner is an excellent tool for keeping your computer cleaned up, but once a week is fine.

The other two are diagnostic tools for us to determine what may be wrong with your computer. If at the end we feel using the ewido scanners would be good for you to do, we will let you know then.

Unfortunately, I have to log off now. I will not have the time to go over your logs. One of the other Security Team members will be online very soon and I am sure that they will help you ASAP.

Just don't panic. LOL

Boot in safemode and then fix these with hjt:

O2 - BHO: DownloadRedirect Class - {00000000-6CB0-410C-8C3D-8FA8D2011D0A} - blank (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Restart] C:\Program Files\Restart\Restart.exe
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache...alFWBInitialSe tup1.0.0.15.cab
Delete the folder in bold.

Then open the taskmanager and kill this proccess: msgr7us[1].exe (if running) and then run ccleaner again.

Also i see that you have the windows messenger service running , if you don't use it then i would disable it:

Please download Shoot The Messenger

Download and run the small (22 kbyte) "ShootTheMessenger.exe" utility. It will display the current status of your system's Messenger Service. The button near the bottom of its window will allow you to set the service to whichever state — running or disabled — that you desire.

If, for any reason, you should ever choose to re-enable the Windows Messenger Service, simply re-run ShootTheMessenger to do so.

Alright, I rebooted in safe mode, but I could only find one of the three files you wantedd me to fix. I could only find the HKCU (04) file. The others weren't there. The msgr7us[1].exe wasn't running, and I downloaded Shoot the messenger.

What do I need to do now?

Can you post a new hjt log? And have you tried installing again?
