i can only start my computer in safe mode, because when I try to start it normally i get the "driver irql not less of equal" message. The people at windows told me to rename srmboot.sys to srmboot.net. My computer worked normally for about a week. I think the problem is related to my audio driver. but ive updated it, and still get the error message.

Thats strange , i don't get one single hit on google for srmboot.sys or srmboot.net. Any idea what it is supposed to be from?

Also where did you get the sounddrivers? And did you also update other drivers like video and motherboard?

I had never heard of them either. I updated from the dell website. I downloaded the analog devices ADI 198x integrated audio driver from the Dell website. I haven't tried downloading or updating any other drivers.

I assume you used you're "service tag" to get the download? Then it should at least be the right driver.

Also update you're video card and motherboard chipset there , and see if that helps.



PS, did you change or add any hardware since you bought the pc?

I'm having trouble updating the video card driver because my computer is in safe mode. It's a catch 22 because the install shield won't work in safe mode, but I can't get out of safe mode until I update.
