Default Can't Install SP2

Hello to everyone once again!

After cleaning out my computer thanks to you guys, I decided that tonight, I would install Service Pack 2, bringing my computer up to speed.

Then, I waited patiently for it to begin installation. Sadly, the computer froze once the installation reached the Cabinet files section.

I read another topic somewhere on the forum about an event viewer. I took the liberty of saving it and attaching it. Hopefully, doing all of this will cut down (if not eliminate) the freezing and allow me to install SP2.

Hi Gray!
I'm not quite sure if it will work but could you try installing SP2 in Safe Mode.
Enter Safe Mode by tapping F8 during the start up of your PC.

Hey Gray,

Great job on the research! Let's take a look at a couple of other possibilities.

Do you get any error messages popping up? Or does absolutely nothing happen?

Before this attempt, had you begun the SP2 install before?

Have you done absolutely ALL of your other updates before attempting the SP2 upgrade? There are very specific instructions as to what you need to do prior to installing SP2,

Have you tried disabling your Anti Virus software while downloading the SP2 install?

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

I haven't tried any of those possibilities yet, but nothing shows up. Everything goes fine until I get to the Cabinet files.

As for previous updates, with the exception of .NET Framework, I believe I have them all.

I'll try to get it from Safe Mode tonight, but I'm not sure if I can connect to the Internet while in Safe Mode.

Had you unsuccessfully tried to install SP2 before going through all of the fixes for malware?

You can but there is a caveat. First when booting into Safe Mode, choose Safe Mode w/ Networking. Second and most importantly, BEFORE you try to log onto the internet, manually start your Firewall, it will most likely not be started automatically in Safe Mode. Then try the install.

If that doesn't work. We can try a manual regedit trick, but (no offense), I really don't like to do that via human remote control.

Look forward to your reply,

Well, umm...after double-checking my updates, it turns out that I don't even have Service Pack 1! :laughing4

So, I'll have to go update by update and if it still gives problems, then I'll reply back.

 Gray!! You goombah!! LOL

Hey man on a more serious note, you will want to run some of those wonderful scans Joe and I gave you to fix your malware problems before proceeding with all of your updates. That's part of the requirements for installing SP2. Here is the full info on that.
