Default Media card readers

Hello to all,
I am running a XPpro SP2 with all the updates possible, on a Intel D865PERL motherboard with a 2.4 CPU and 512 ram.

I just installed a media card reader in the front panel this device is capable to being pluged in to MB direct or with a adaptor to a USB port, either way I do it I get a message "unknown device". THe device came with a driver cd but will not install as it says it is not needed for XP, I think I have ruled out hardware issues, if I plug in some other hardware it is recognized and works fine. :computer_

Hope someone can help.
Thanks Fareed

 Hi Fareed,

Welcome to PCHF. We have an excellent staff of hardware technicians here, and I am sure that they will be able to help you resolve your difficulty.

Unfortunately, hardware is not my area of expertise, and not one of them is currently online, although I am sure that they will be shortly.

Keep an eye out for their posts, and don't panic.

TTFN

Hi there Fareed!
My welcome to PC Help Forum!

Could you try to follow on with the Wizard new hardware, in the Control Panel, with the driver CD in your computer. Make sure the option, A CD came with my device (or something), is being used.
Would you also be able to try your card reader in another computer. We would know if maybe your reader is faulty.

Bluefish

Have you tried installing it the way I suggested you?
