Default [Resolved] Hi. Great forum. I am in need of some help

I usually think myself clued up on computers but here goes.

My pc at home keeps blue screening on boot. as soon as the welcome screen comes up it blue screens or it will crash on the welcome screen.

I have tried a new hard drive in there, new memory dimms, new graphics card. It does the same every time.

I am loading the graphics card drivers from the cd that came with the machine and it was working perfectly before I formatted the hard drive.

It's an athlon xp 3000+. Really quick machine for its age.
Fans are all running fine. nothing fried on the mobo. It's really strange that it only happened when I wiped the HD and reinstalled.

I tried to put a copy of SP2 on there and it wouldn't boot at all. So I went back to a normal windows installation

Safe mode is fine for the most part. Which makes me think it might be a driver issue. But the driver worked fine for so long and I have tried other drivers on there and different cards.

Its a complicated one. So any help you can give me would be great. Thanks

Hi there Iamdusted , welcome to PCHF.

Sounds like indeed a driver issue , have you also updated youre motherboard and other drivers?

And i would recommend to download updated drivers for youre VGA card from the web , drivers on the cd are usually pretty old.

If you don't know the specs of youre pc then use this app to find out or post the result for us to look at.

The motherboard is a VIA K7 series and the processor is an Athlon 3000XP .
Thanks for your quick reply.

By updating it do you mean the firmware or the drivers for it ?
I also see on boot that some of the devices are sharing IRQ 11 on the screen before the windows splash screen. Could that be causing it ? If so, how do I reset the IRQ allocation on the bios.

Sorry for all the questions. and thanks again

I ment updating the drivers , but that IRQ allocation issue sounds like it could the problem , unfortunatly i don't know much about that.
Probebly one of the other guys will help you with that.

But here is a link for the motherboard drivers:

And if you want me to look for other drivers , like vga card , then post the brand and model of it.
