sorry to drift off topic - but how exactly do OEM version of windows work?.

when i got the new hard-drive (after the other one had failed) i also had to order a "Compaq Recovery disks" (Which is a DVD) Along with it, do these Recovery disks contain XP Home?, or is that hidden away on the hard-disk for the recovery disk i have to "awaken" it (if you like )

Again, thanks alot!.

EDIT-------------------

Just used a program called "PC-Doctor" to test the memory, it ran 2 tests, both failed (Pattern test+Advance Pattern test), here's an event log:

Basicly that means you don't get an original windows cd , and that you can't use it anymore if you buy an other pc.

And youre previous HD probebly had an recovery partition , but since that had to be replaced , the recovery files are now on the cd's they send you. And yes it contains winXP home if that is the version of XP that you have.

Thats bad , and indeed indicates a problem with youre memory. Do you have more then one stick in there?

PS, i don't see the log.

Ok, the recovery disks that your were sent, contain, the Operating System, drivers for hardware and any other software that was installed on the PC when it came from the factory. The recovery disks will return your PC back to "Out of the box" state. You can start the recovery procedure, by inserting the DVD disc into the drive and restarting the PC. The recovery utility should then do the rest of the work for you. The reason you cannot see the recovery partition is because the manufacturer creates it as a hidden partition so that "you" the user can delete it by accident.

You could try to reset youre bios settings to see if some setting there is wrong but it really looks like you have a bad stick of ram.
