Hey there Carl,

Can you go to your Start button > run > type msconfig

Look at the "startup" tab and look for references to Norton. Please can you post the entries in that list here and we'll look at this

Hi Hengis - thank

I cannot find anything specific to Norton, some Symantec stuff so I have put the pics on here so you can see what it says (Hope that's ok?)

Ccapp and SNDMon are both of norton/symantec but should not be responsible for youre problem.

I can't see the very last entry though , what is that?

But try to remove the tick infront of the "empty" line and see if that helps.

If not , then i would recommend to un-install and re-install norton , i think something went wrong during the installation.

PS , also have a look in youre "startup" folder in youre start menu and report back the content , if any.

Hi again Joe5

The last one is for Broadband Medic for my provider (NTL) I have taken out the blank one and will try that again, thanks

As a footnote Norton seems to slow everone's machine down a gizzillion, is there anyting anyone can recommend by way of a good subtitute for it (Internet Security and Anti-Virus?)

You use the complete norton securety suite?
Norton can indeed be pretty system hungry , i myself use Symantec corporate AV and Zonealarm as firewall , i never have any problems.

Btw , did you check youre startup folder?

Only Internet Security and anti-virus not sstem works as I found that slowed my old laptop down something stupid

I might just give them a go, ta

Checked the start-up folder (Start/Programs/Start-Up Folder) and that only said Broadband Medic so not unduly worried there
