Default IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop error.

About a week ago I was burning a cd for a friend and my computer turned off. I thought maybe I knocked the power cord out or some other power related problem. I checked and made sure the connections were fine and restarted my pc. It got to the XP loading screen, ran scandisk and then continued booting. Right after scandisk it flash a blue screen and restarted. It did this constantly. Well I gave up for a week until I could get an XP cd. I ran Recovery Console and it asked what instalation Id like to boot (dont Know why I only have one OS...) and it tried to boot and showed this stop error:

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

[some filler text about how to solve the problem...]

***Stop: 0x0000000A (0x0A27000D, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x801C63C0)

Id tried to find some support around the net. Found some similiar problems which said to run Recovery Console and copy over a new kernel32.dll but I cant get that far in Recovery Console since it just shows the stop error.

Does anyone have any Idea how to fix this? I've been considering just formatting it and installing XP again but I dont wanna get a different product key thats not mine. Its kind of scares me...

Well thanks for your help.

Sorry its supposed to be IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL like it says in the title. Not IRQ

Hi there and welcome to PCHF.

Would it be possible for you to post links to the other forums you have used, just so that we're not going over old ground with our responses.

Thanks.

Fast fix for this would be to go into your Bios, If you do not know how to let us know what type of Pc you are using. And in the right hand corner you will see default/safe settings. Scroll to that hit enter then F10 and reboot. Your problem will be gone. For now. Seems your Bios is trying to use a couple different "IRQ's" that should be elsewhere..

And doing a recovery will not usally fix that error, what was the last piece of software you installed?

Hey Waters,

Thanks for helping out, great advice. I am curious, is this problem caused by a corrupt kernel file? What type of things can cause the BIOS to suddenly start looking for the wrong IRQ? Thanks for any information you can impart.
