There is a small battery at the bottom of your Motherboard, look at the specsheet it shows right where it is. Take it to the computer store with you, and you will have no trouble getting the replacment. (famous last words, maybe you should knock on wood. lol)

ugh big problem..... a few days ago my computer started shutting off (black screen) but it wasnt totally off, like i would push and hold the power button and i could hear it powering down and then i would turn it on and it would power up just fine. But it would keep doing that every once in a while. So i decided to finally replace the battery today to see if that would help. Well, all of a sudden it just shut off again... so i powered it up and ran mcafee but it shut off in the middle of it. So I tried to power it up again and it wont even go to the Windows XP screen. It only shows the HP Splash screen and then it goes to a black screen showing a blinking white cursor. Then when I try to hit escape, ctrl alt delete, anything it makes a beeping noise like its locked up.
I had installed a 512MB Ram several weeks ago, so I thought that maybe this was the problem. So i took it out but its still doing the same thing.
I dont know what the problem is..... I can get into the BIOS Setup though but thats the only thing I can access. I can't even get into SAFE mode.
Sorry if I'm rambling.... im just so upset with my stupid computer....
pls help.....thanx

Wow, say hello to an old thread

Can you open the case and check that all of the fans inside the PC are spinning.

ok i was playing around with it a few minutes ago to see if i could find something wrong i.e. something loose or something..... well when i started it up it makes a funny noise and i looked at the floppy drive and it lit up when it made the noise so i figured it was because it was trying to read something in the floppy drive. So i put a random floppy disk in and started it up and now the black screen says Starting MS-DOS.... and hangs..... i dunno. Maybe I changed something in BIOS when I didnt realize it. so im gonna go check that and let you guys know....

ok, i reset the defaults in BIOS and windows starts fine now...BUT..... as soon as all my programs start up my computer just goes black and my monitor shuts off....i have to push and hld button on the cpu tower to get it to actually turn off....then i restart and it happens all over again. So even if i do have a virus or whatever i have no way of checking it. (btw im on my sister's laptop)

Hey SA,

Welcome back! Although sorry to hear about the circumstances. Since the PC started booting, have you tried SafeMode?

Looking forward to your reply,
