Default [Resolved] MBR error on startup

I was having intermittant problems with windows so i decided to do a full system recovery.

I have an ADVENT 3319 pc

P4 3.2Ghz with HT
1Gb ram
Nvidia 6600
200gb HD

when the pc rebooted during the recovery process i got an error saying MBR fault (cant remember the exact wording) and it stopped booting.

now it will not boot up (even from a bootable CD)

can anyone help

Hi Wile_E welcome to PHCF :-)
Have you allready tried booting from another bootable cd? You should be able to boot from one, change the boot sequence in the bios of your motherboard, since the harddrive is not accessed when booting from cd.
Do you knowh whether the computer was completely virusfree before the error occured? Because there is a slight chance the virus has infected your MBR. When you're sure you can go here and take a look at 'method' 2 to repair your mbr.
Good luck, Bram

Hya Wile_E , can you also describe what problems you had before the recovery attempt? It might also be a hardware problem.

I was having problems with slow loading times (like opening a folder would require about 30-40 sec to draw in the icons) and some random crashes and lockups.

i have fixed the fault though - i put the HD in another comp and formatted it the refitted it and ran a system restore and now all is fine.

thanks for the replies though

Wile E
