Default No Sound Device

I have a hp pavilion 751n and it is telling me I have no sound device code 10. Know for what I've done to cause this . I got an error mesage saying system 32 files missing or corupt so I used a windows xp home edition disk to repair it well that didn't work so I tried reinstall it. Well I ended up it split my hard drive with win xp installed twice. So I deleted the partitions and formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows xp home edition now no sound device code 10. When I bought this computer it didn't come with a disk so the disk I used was from a Dell . Ihave also used Belarc and it tells me my multimedia is a c-media ac97audio device. Is this ac97 what I have in my computer or is it what was downloaded from the disk ?need help please

Hya DDcornell2 , welcome to PCHF.

Did you get that error also before or only after the formatting? If before , then youre sound chip could be busted.

If only after then its probebly a driver issue , can you post the "service tag" of youre Dell? Then we can find the correct drivers for you.

Oops , i should have read better.

This is the driver/update page for youre PC:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...&lang=en&cc=us&

But they don't list any sound , motherboard or video drivers..

It looks like you have/had a recovery partition with all drivers and software.

But by the sound of it , you just deleted that partition i think..

Have a look at the "How to obtain System Recovery CDs and DVDs" link on that same page , im afraid youre gone need it.
