Default [Fixed] windows securty center alerts

Hello, I am running XP professional with Norton AV 2003, Spybot, & Zone Alarm Pro. Windows firewall is currently turned off as well as anti virus protection. Automatic updates is on. I have tried to see if turning these things off will help my problem and have also turned off the way security center alerts me but a antivirus is turned off in Security Center alert always seem to pop up in notification area during startup and is a little annoying because I am not able to make it go away. I have tried to fix this problem to no avail when it shows up listed three times when Spybot checks for problems. A friend told me to use the Norton Corporate Ed. and I will not have this problem. Another person said that my computer is too slow and so it does not detect Norton in time during startup but I originally did not have this problem at all even with all these security programs? ouch! Thank you

Hey there dsrtrnnr,
Welcome to PCHF

The reason for this is as follows:
  • Security Center is monitoring before your antivirus is completely
loaded. Hence the reason the bubble disappears once it is running.
You can solve it by doing the following:
  • Open your security center from control panel.
  • On the left hand side click on "Change the way Security Alerts me"
  • Uncheck "Virus Protection".
Warning - if you do this you will not be alerted if your virus scanner doesn't start.

Thank you Zimbo for the Welcome and the reply. I have unchecked all three boxes, firewall, automatic updates, & av protection, to change the way security center alerts me about a dozen times and it probably does the job, but maybe when I fix this problem when it shows in Spybot it negates the change I made when I unchecked those boxes in Windows Security Center. I dont know but that could be really weird if I have to ignore this problem when it shows up in Spybot because it always shows up there as a registry change problem. ??? Thanks

After you have run Spybot , you can rightclick on a detected entry and choose to ignore that item from further scans so it doesn't show up anymore.

Hi there dsrtrnnr!
You mention a friend telling you that your computer is too slow.
What are your specifications?
