Angry Hardware issue

Alright here is the issue.
My PC was giving video errors (blue screen of death errors) it then refused to POST (pre-operating system test)but would give one long beep.
I thought that the onboard video card had died so I bought a new mobo. My mate put the CPU in the old mobo to test and bent the pins on it. I straightened the pins and tested in the new mobo.
It would not POST and gave no beep could. CPU and case fan work though.
I bought a new CPU but I am still have the same issue.
I have tested the RAM in another PC and it is fine.

Only thing that I can think of is that the mobo is shorting out on the case pins so I pulled it out and put the mobo on an anti-static mat and then tested. Same problems
What I am thikning is that it is the PSU, does this sound viable cause I am out of ideas

Hardware details are
Cereron 2.66 D
478 pin Mobo with onboard video, sound and NIC
512 DDR MB RAM

Hey there Psyclic.
Welcome to pchelpforum.

Only thing that I can think of is that the mobo is shorting out on the case pins so I pulled it out and put the mobo on an anti-static mat and then tested. Same problems
What I am thinking is that it is the PSU, does this sound viable cause I am out of ideas
  1. Are you getting any beeps from the system at the moment?
  2. Could you post the exact make/model of your motherboard?
  3. Have you checked to see whether the jumper setting for CMOS is disabled on the motherboard?
It might be related to your PSU, do you have another one that you can test in the system seeing as though you managed to test your RAM in another PC?

  1. Are you getting any beeps from the system at the moment? - Nope nothing
  2. Could you post the exact make/model of your motherboard? - Biostar P4VMA-M
  3. Have you checked to see whether the jumper setting for CMOS is disabled on the motherboard? - Havent checked yet but will do tonight when I have the box open, although I think the CMOS jumper is factory set in the normal (non-cleared) possition

I will be testing the PSU tonight, if my girlfriend lets me pull the PSU out of her PC to test in mine

Thanks for the quick responce

Alright now another interesting addition
When I have the IDE cabel from the HDD in the Mobo the HDD does not power up when I have it out the HDD will power up.
Still got giving any beep codes when the mobo is in the case or on anti-static out of the box

Does the machine power up while the hard drive is disconnected completely?

Are you connecting the IDE cable the correct way to both the motherboard and the hard drive?

Remember the red strip needs to go towards Pin 1 on the m/board and towards the molex power on the h/drive

Hi Sir!
Does the fan for the PSU runs when you press the power button or nothing happens?

Please if your PSU has the "remote switch" connector. Its a power connector in addition to normal power connector that we are used to. If your mobo supports this additonal power connector and you do not connect it, then your machine won't boot up.
