Default graphics card problem

recently installed a radeon 9800 (128mb) and eventually got it working as ive never done this kind of thing before. it worked well during my game (battlefield 1942) but i noticed a couple of white flickering specs that would appear now and again. these increased and about 25mins into the game my computer would just shut off. ive tried the same thing twice and the same thing has happend both times however when i just play music or go on the internet, there are no such problems.

also ive noticed the fan on the card doesnt spin (yes i pluged it in the right place) but i wasnt sure if it should be constantly spinning or just when it felt the need too. dont know if its all all connected.

thanks in advance:smiley:

Hey stid, wb

Those "specs" or artifacts on your screen are a direct result of the fact that your fan is not working. The card is overheating my friend and you need to get a new fan - NOW - !

As you're in the UK, check out sites like overclockers.co.uk, dabs.com or microdirect.com. This is a great model, quiet, cool and you can get it cheaper than this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...7129&doy=20m11

Well, for a start, the 9800pro requires a power plug (molex) to be plugged into it for it to function correctly - ensure that it is connected. Also, check that the little white plug from the fan is connected to the socket on the board.

It would be better to get a fan that is designed for the specific equipment, especially when dealing with graphics cards because they are such a strange shap/size.
