Default [FIXED] I have a very bad problem

Hello everyone. I'm new here this is my first post.

I have a very serious problem. I was playing a game on my $3000 computer. it was prince of persia 2 the warrior within. It was playing fine when out of nowhere the computer screen started acting very weird. Then out of nowhere. it became loaded with very small bright green colord ==== ==== ==== ==== == = = = = things like that. And it froze up. So I turned the power off then back on after a few minutes. And ever since the computer moniter has been seriously messed up. it will not work. it works only in safe mode. when i have it start up normally the moniter automatically goes into safe mode and will not wake up :computer_ . so everytime i turn the computer on and it won't wake up i have to turn it off because there is nothing i can do because i can'tsee with the moniter in sleep mode. but when its in safe mode. i can see. but the screen is still very messed up. One time though it did work while not in safe mode. and i was going to back everything on to CD. but like a TOTAL moron i pressed the stand by button hopeing it would fix it. it did not. and hasn't worked in anything else other then safe mode.

i have a 233 gig hard drive that is loaded. with stuff i have aquired over the past 2 years since buying it. so my question and plea for help is. Does anyone know if using a USB flash drive in safe mode work? will i be able to move files over to that and move that to another computer before i reformate? will a firewire cable work? the reason i ask is because. it won't let me copy files onto a CD while its in safe mode. it won't ackknowledge that there is a blank writable CD in the drive. yet it does know when the recovery disk is in it. i can reformate anytime i want. but i cannot lose everything i have on it. i hope the reformate works. . i had just gotten a Leadtek 6800GT also. with the nvidia drivers fully updated. i tried everything in safe mode. from uninstalling prince of persia 2. to rolling back the nvidia drivrs. to system restores. nothing works. what a bad week this is been.

if anybody out there knows something PLEEEEASE lend some advice. i think i'm pretty good with computers due to 10 years of pure trial and error but i am completely screwed with this lol. thank you in advance.

Edit: my friend just told me it could be a virus. i don't know how it got that far when i have corprate edition virus protection.

Hya Knives , welcome to PCHF.

It sounds to me as if youre vga card overheated , and maybe is damaged now. Is the fan of it working?

And can you test it with an other videocard?

Atleast you still have warrenty on it , if it is indeed the vga card.
And no risk of loosing any data.

Did you check if the fan worked?

Joe my friend. you have Saved My ***!!!!!!!!!! THANK YO SO MUCH!

i swapped them out and it works fine now. thank you so much

i am never going to buy another nvidia card again. i'm sticking to ATI now i think.

but i just don't understand it. i was playing FEAR and call of duty 2 on full graphic settings and they are monster games with graphics. and it played perfectly for me. yet with prince of persia 2. the graphics are a lot less. and it killed the card. i just don't get it.

No prob , but im sorry to hear it is indeed busted.

And that the card died when running prince of persia and not one of the other games is just coincedence i think , but maybe PoP uses some special shading effect or something that youre card has some trouble with.

Like with my card , it runs Farcy barely at medium settings , except when i turned down the shadows it would play on high settings..

yeah its a shame but now i get to hopefully get a refund and a new card. this time it'll be one of the x800's or maybe x1600. i'm not sure yet. time for some research. i can't thank you enough. the reformate would've been for nothing.
