Default Backrounds/Desktops bad quality looks terrible

Suddenly all the desktops/backrounds built into Win XP have all started looking shabby. Instead of being all nice and round around the edges they're all sharp and generally look horrible, as if Anti-Aliasing has been turned off. I am using an Acer 17" monitor, but have tried a CRT and it's still exactly the same situation. I have checked the resolution/tried lots of different ones but still the same problem. I've changed the refrest rate but no success.

This only happens in this one User Account, and I have tried loading a profile from a user that this doen't happen to but this doesn't help.

I've restored back to a few different times. I have downloaded/installed the latest Graphic Card drivers, I've played around in Diaplsy properties so much and come across nothing that changes this.

Also, I Just noticed, when I first log on, the backround's fine, as it finishes logging on/starting up, the backround disappears/changed to the default blue colour, then it re-appears as the backround again but the bad quality one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there and welcome to PCHF,

Have you tried doing a spyware/virus scan for that specific user?

Also, in your display properties window, in the desktop tab, is the position select as stretched? You may also want to play with the Appearance settings or look in that user's video card settings in the Advanced window from the Settings tab of your Display Properties.
Hope that helps a bit

Cheers

Thanks for the response
I just did a spyware and a virus scan but it didn't change anything. Also I have played around with display settings so much and found nothing that changes it.

Hmm... Wierd kind of problem. Does that specific user use any special program that the other users don't have/use? Or any process that none of the other users have?

Hi Ollydv,

My welcome to PCHF as well.

You say that you scanned for virus' and spyware, could you please tell us what you used, and if anything was found.

Is it possible to delete this user account and create a new one for the user?

TTFN

LGW
