Default [RESOLVED] Change HP_owner admin account

Hi

I wonder if you can help. I have a newish HP Pavilion with XP home pre-installed. When new, I created an admin user account and one other restricted account. Whenever I log on the login menu shows HP_owner by default. It seems my admin account is a sort of alias for the HP_owner account already on the pc. eg. There is an HP_owner directory which is protected. I can create a new admin account but cannot delete my original admin account ie the HP_owner account. I have googled and found this same question on other forums. Folk have suggested changing names, changing computer name, deleting original account etc. None of this works. Is there any way of removing HP's attempt at continuous indoctrination!? Short of buying a new copy of XP and overwriting the whole shooting match that is!

JJ

Also, you can assign rights to the folder c:\my documents\hp_owner\blah.. to another user on the PC (like another Admin account) by doing this:

1.Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder for which you want to set permissions

2.Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.

3.Do the following:
? To set permissions for a group or user that does not appear in the Group or user names box, click Add. Type the name of the group or user you want to set permissions for and then click OK.

4.Do the following:
? To allow a permission, in the Permissions for User or Group box, select the Allow check box.

When you have added the new user rights to that folder you should be able to re-name it when logged in as the new user.

Use my guide above to give MnS full rights over the HP_Owner docs and settings folder. When you have done that log in as MnS and:

Use this guide: http://www.petri.co.il/copy_user_pro...windows_xp.htm to copy the contents of the HP Owner profile into the account that you actually want to use.

re-boot and log in as the user you copied the profile to.

Thanks for this... If I click properties the options are "general" "sharing" and "customise"

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Ah, ok, open Windows Explorer > tools > folder options > view > right down the bottom of the list, un-tick "use simple file sharing" and hit ok. The Security tab will now be there when you right click and click on properties.
