Hi Vicond,

Welcome back. This is most definitely not a stupid question. Are you sure that all of your updates are current?

Did this just suddenly happen? Do you know of any software or hardware that you might have installed prior to this happening?

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

There is a very big change that this is malware related.

If you go to start/run/msconfig , does that also doesn't work?

And can you follow the instructions in the prework link below , and post the logs?

Windows XP Home Edition

By the above example, i can only deduce that the computer is infected by some spyware or virus.

If u need to close some programs using task manager, i suggest rebooting the computer and when the windows screen loads , quickly press ctr-alt-delete , and most of the time it will appear, and after 5 mins or so, if u press the command again, it will not appear.

However in the case of the task manager not appearing even the command is press after windows load, i suggest reformating the computer. Hope it helps.

All of my drivers are fully updated, except windows because, my validation isnt legal (Hope this is ok 2 say; as long as were not talking about where to get it and such.). But I have SP2 and some greater windows updates.

This did randomly start happening, im not sure when exactly. Only software or hardware I can think of that I recently installed is O&O Defrag Professional 8.

I dont think this is malware related because I cant see how it would have gotten on my machine to begin with.. every nigh i boot up in safe mode and run scans for Ad-Aware, AVGW, CCleaner, Ewido, SpybotS&D, and defrag with O&O Defrag.
But i will do the work in the prework link tonight.

Good pc maintenance there. O0 But even with all that there is still a change there is malware involved. Have a go at the prework instructions , and in the mean time also give this a try:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs...kmgrenable.reg

Doubleclick on it to allow it to merge with the registry.
