Default [PENDING] Local Area Connection - Network Cable Unplugged

Hello, good people who help other people with their PC problems.

My name's Steve, and I'm really, really, really ****ed off :computer_ .

Even as I typed this, this problem occured twice..."Local Area Connection - Network Cable Unplugged"

Whenever this message pops up on the lower left corner of my Windows XP software, I have to wait somewhere around 30 seconds before the internet lets me do stuff again. It disconnects me from all video games I'm playing, it signs me out of all conversation windows and Instant Messenger programs I have open, and it doesn't let me click any links to any other pages on the internet until 30 seconds is up. And look! As I kept typing, it happened two more times! It's getting REALLY out of hand!

In fact, so out of hand, I'm gonna use this neat little smiley a few more times out of pure anger and hatred for this computer:

I'm sorry if I come off as obnoxious, it's just I'm really ****ed off is all  .

You would probably be ****ed off too if your internet disconnected four times every five minutes. So can anyone help?

I have tried all manner of things. I have disconnected every cable that connects with my computer and plugged it back in, and it still shows up. I've looked at every cable and they all seem to be connected just fine. My computer isn't even connected with any other local computers. I use a Netgear modem that doubles as a router to connect to the internet. Other people in my house use the router feature of the modem to connect to the internet, but they also get randomly disconnected extremely often. This problem has crippled me technically and mentally, so much so that I think I'll use that neat little emoticon five more times:
:computer_

I think I'm basically getting my point across to you guys. ANY help would be MUCH appreciated. I want to play Battlefield 2 again! HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL!!!

Welcome to PCHF cheez!
What happens to your router when this happens. Last time I encountered this problem it turned out the router was restarting suddenly. I had to upgrade my firmware. Have you got any p2p program active when it happens?

It happens at any time when I'm doing anything. I could be simply watching a video on my computer doing nothing else and it still happens.

Yeah I understand. But is your router restarting? I mean is it reconnecting to your computer (and the internet), or is your computer reconnecting to the router?

 Hi Steve,

Don't worry, we've all been there at one time or another. So far you haven't mentioned anything about rebooting the modem. Sometimes that is all it takes, just make sure that you leave it off completely for at least two minutes.

I also agree with Bluefish, that you may want to consider upgrading your firmware. Check with your modem provider and/or service provider to see if there have been any relevant upgrades as late.

If all of this does not work, I would consider replacing the cable connecting the modem to the internet, in order to determine if the problem is a faulty cable.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

It's a modem that doubles as a router. The computer itself is connected to it as a modem, but other people in my house use it as a router with their laptops. They get the same problem in that they get disconnected, but I've heard them say they haven't gotten a message that says "local area connectoin - network cable unplugged" which is understandable, I guess, because they're only connected using a wireless connection.

Basically, this computer gets randomly disconnected from the Netgear modem SOMEHOW and it happens very frequently, but as you can see, the internet usually still stays intact, but this problem is just really, really annoying. Everyone in my family hates this obnoxious error, we get it all the time no matter what we're doing basically. I can't play computer games anymore because I can't play a single match for five minutes without disconnecting, and MSN Messenger also disconnects, and I'm forced to sign out just so I can keep a conversation going.

Long story short, the computer I think is disconnecting from the modem, and I have no idea how it's doing so, I've checked all the wires and everything.
