Question Copying MAC CDs to a Win XP System

I've been fiddling for a couple of days now trying to complete a total office backup. I have a couple of hundred CDs that were burned on a Macintosh from as long as 7-8 years ago. The PC can read the disk fine, but certain files which have unusual characters for the PC like "\" won't copy and says it can not read the file. Is there a program or utility that can help with this?

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to PCHF. WE have a terrific team of people here with a broad range of experience. I am sure that we will be able to help you find the answer to your questions.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no experience with MAC. However, I am sure that someone will be online soon who can give you some guidance.

There is a program called MacDrive which allows you to access/play Mac cd/dvd's in your PC.
There is a trial version on this site, not sure what limitations it has though.

Thanks.. I ironically already tried that product. Been doing PC stuff for years and have never run across this problem. That program actually mounts the CD Drive, so since the discs are readable in Windows, it doesn't read it as a MAC disc. Part of the problem with MACs are that they don't save the files with extensions - so most of the files are extensionless. We're mainly copy Art Department files - so TIFFs, PDFs, QXDs, DOCs, AIs, PSDs, etc. It's not like I can't copy any of them - just ones with foreign characters cause it to spaz out. I figured there may be a program that could naturalize the names..

Last minute thought- maybe Roxio could do it.. I'll try that and let everyone know.

Alternatively you could use something like Alcohol 120%, even if you try to `save it as an image first` and then reburn it.
