I know that wifi cards are only good in "hot spots" Ever think about and Air Card? T-mobile has one for $199 and unlimited access for 39.99 a month. Basically it gives your laptop its very on cell phone and ISP connection. I dont know what your plans are but I used to travel 6 months a year so it worked great for me

A Wi-Fi card will only work where there is an existing Wi-Fi compatible wireless network. Many cafes, resturaunts, libraries, etc provide free Wi-Fi access (or if you buy a drink, whatever). Ask around. In this day and age, it is not hard to find a wireless hotspot or internet cafe (I was able to track down a couple on my trip to Michigan to use a desktop). Wi-Fi tends to be free access, but if you want to use a desktop it will usually cost something in the $9/hr range (or $2.50/15 min).

A Wi-Fi card will only take up as much memory as the drivers use. As a piece of hardware, it does not use memory in itself, but it's drivers do.
