Default Internet Explorer 6 and Flash.ocx Problems

Hi Im new to the forums, Can I point out firstly that I am not a computer guru and I am in severe need of help!!!! I will try and include as much info as I can, If I have missed anything out, please feel free to advice me... and if it goes on a bit I apologise for this in advance... Thanks
I have big problems and appreciate any help and info given.. Thanks in advance
Up until recently my computer which is running windows xp home edition sp2, ie version 6 sp2 was running fantastic.. My computer is only 3 months old and came pre-installed with windows xp home edition...My son installed Half life on the computer for the main reason of playing Counter Strike online and I think this is where my problems started...
For some reason the game started to freeze and then he was unable to connect to its server... I eventually uninstalled the game (not looking for a fix for this) as I felt that it had interfered with the playing of other online games on the computer (ie: neopets, sad I know, but I love it)
After uninstalling, the online games continued to cause a problem by lagging and then crashing... bearing in mind that none of this happened untill my sons game was installed on the computer..
I updated the macromedia flash player and this is when I got the error message that the Flash.ocx had caused an error and had to close.. On the advance menu of the internet explorer add on management it also confirms this is the problem.. sometimes I am not even getting this error message and internet explorer just closes and then my system reboots and sometime does not even get by the loading configuration page before it reboots again then eventually just switches off... I then am unable to restart windows unless I have left the computer off for a few minutes...
I have tried uninstalling macromedia flash with the uninstaller and info supplied on their website...
I have also tried uninstalling ie from my computer (Not in the add and remove programes as its not in the option menu) from the windows component set up by unchecking it..
None of this worked so I therefore did a clean install of windows in the hope that all would be back to the way it was running before I ran into problems... but it was in vain as everything is the same...
If you have had the patience to read all of my post... A Big Thank You To You
