I have a few folders that I would like to make private but the little box to do so isnt high lighted. How do i check the box to make it private to hide folders from others that use my PC? :icon_scra

Default Users and File Sharing

 Hi there Panache,

Nice to see you again.

The simple answer is to set up other user accounts or a guest account that allows other people using your PC granting them limited access and not activiating file sharing.

The slightly more complicated answer you will find in this Microsoft article about File Sharing. (Protecting your files is related,) [url="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040"]]How to configure file sharing in Windows XP. If I remember correctly you are on XP, right?

Let us know if this works for you.

Looking forward to your reply,

:cheesy: It's pretty amazing isn't it? I'm still finding new things that we can do every day.

I was going to mention your sig, (I love the quote) but I see you caught that.

Look forward to hearing from you later,

Is it later yet? Well when I made my the other account on my PC limited, my Norton was all jacked up and nothing was protected.
I used the link you gave me and it just walked me thru the process of checking the box titled "make this folder private" but the box still isnt high lighted

:cheesy:

Later enough I'd guess, LOL.

Have you given Merlin's suggestion a go?

Also, when I had that problem with Norton, I found that uninstalling it, creating the other user accounts, logging on as Administrator, and installing Norton's from that account, solved my problems. May be more trouble then you want to go through tho.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN
