you're absolutely right although apparently any volume header problem like this can affect an entire raid array, because the volume information is duplicated to the other raid disks. there's other things to find cash for before i can set up a server for all this stuff anyway. tis what i'm aiming for though. you know how it is - the more cash you have, the less s**t you eat...:computer_
