Default Strange mouse behaviour

So Sorry I cant supp any system specs but tryig to help a friend out...all I know is shes on Xp with SP2.

The problem is and i quote from part of her email....

My mouse is doing my nut in big time, had to get another one as old one was psychotic and jumping around place as if possessed ( and still is) so the new one has been working fine for about 3 wks, much better no problems UNTIL this afternoon, now every few minutes the tower beeps and the mouse freezes,
Ive been in2 control panel and had a play(no luck), ive disconnected ALL wires into Tower and cleaned it (dust galore).
ive taken ball outta mouse and cleaned that, and now im at a standstill, its still happening!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR

So hoping some kind person may offer a soloution .. thanks guys :

Hi there, and Welcome

Strange, huh? I have that with my mouse sometimes...just kinda speeds of across the screen, usually to the X of a window so I end up clicking it and closing, or I'm playing Unreal Tournament online, end up spazzing out and launching six rockets at my feet

I'm wondering if maybe the PS2 port for the mouse is possibly damaged. Have you by any chance tried using a USB mouse? That is of course assuming you have been using PS2 as it is. By that, I mean the standard connection rather than a USB.

Regards,
M_M

Hi M_M
As my question states the problem is not mine but that of a friend whom approached me to help..... Ive had a similar thing myself using cordless mouse and occurs when batterys are getting weak.
Im presuming shes got PS2 port mouse though I cant be sure of that until I mail her to ask!!!

re dmage to prt well logically thinking I wouldnt think so as problem occurred out of the blue whilstit was still plugged in .. I could concur with you had she been pushing mice in and out of it.
Anyway thanks for the input its appreciated..and hope maybe this further info will provoke some soloution

Regards

You're Welcome

I used to have a cordless one and the batteries tend to die quite quick. Further to that, the batteries were not easy to remove so I think my bashing it to free them ended up breaking it

Well, maybe it isn't a problem with the port. It could always be a driver issue. Did they by any chance get a CD with these mice?

If at all you do have access to a USB mouse or yourself or your friend can afford to buy one, assuming it would be used of course, I do recommend that option.

If it was an optical mouse i would say time to clean the "eye" , or if it was a wireless then it probebly would need a battery change but it doesn't seem to be either.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse driver.

If that doesnt work then have a look here and follow the instructions please to see if its a malware issue:

:-D Hey Guys,

@no123les, does your friend have an internet connection? It might be easier and more productive for her to be available to ask questions of. She could post into this thread you have started for her, and we could help her troubleshoot directly. We're here all of the time, so she wouldn't have to worry about timezones.

Tell her we won't bite.

A mouse could also get damaged.
I have experience with that kind of mice.
If that's so there's nothing to do about it expect for buying a new mouse.
