Default My Laptop Full System Restore Problem

Hello, still having problems with my sound problem in my desktop since I'm no computer expert and don't have a 2nd PC to test the sound card in for now.

Anyway, here's another problem I've had for a while now.

I have a Compaq laptop that I bought a few years ago (3 or 4), and I tried doing a full system restore to it, so I could sell it to a friend. It comes with 4 system restore discs. Okay, so the problem is, the system restore never reaches to 100%, around the 2nd or 3rd disc, the laptop just shuts off. EVERY TIME! The laptop is very hot at that time, is it an overheating problem or something?

If so, what do I need to do to be able to restore the laptop fully? Right now, it's just a paperweight.

Thank you

Hey there San Fran

Not too sure what your laptop looks like but most laptops have a fan at the back of them. When you turn the laptop on could you see whether this fan is spinning.

If you can't tell if its working or not you can try put something in the way of it e.g paper clip,
At least then we can rule one thing out.

What OS do you currently have on the laptop and what OS are you trying to install?

Hey, I'm back to this laptop again.

First of all, it's a Compaq Presario 2100

I'm trying to do a "QuickRestore" System Recovery of Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1

I do feel some air coming out of a small vent in the back of the laptop, but the air gets really warm. I don't see any fan movement whatsoever in any of the other vents (2 on the bottom).

Try installing Motherboard moniter 5 (MBM5), it displays the temp of your motherboard (if it is compatable). Sorry dont have a link but easy enough to find. Its worth a try, at least you will know if its a prroblem with overheating. If this is the case you can buy cooler pads for laptops off ebay for about a tenner. I ordered one today as Ileave my laptop on for long times and it does get very hot.

Problem is, the laptop is a paperweight, I can't use it now, because I began the re-installation process.
