Default PC to TV only in Black and White...

Hey everyone,
I have been trying to get my TV to show color for so long.. I'm losing my mind. ANY suggestions would be helpful! Here's the story..
I'm running the S-video out of my Nvidia GE Force card into a JVC AV-27WF36,(27 in flat analog direct view.) I'm able to get a picture, but its distorted with the black border, and in BW. I have run through all the TV settings ie(PAL NTSC) and no matter what I do, I get the same thing. I don't know if this helps, but... when i first turn on the PC and it is booting, the TV with show the windows logo in color, but once I log into XP it goes to the crappy view in BW.. I have tinkered with all the settings for the card, and even downloaded TVTool... Nothing works. I'm hoping its a simple fix, but I just want it to work. I have looked around on the web, and have seen sites telling me I need an adapter.. I dont think I do. The PC has s-video out, and the TV has it in. Any thoughts?

Hya cmurenegade? , welcome to PCHF.

There are different reasons why a tv out would be black and white ,See if this helps:

Where has the colour gone on my TV-out port?

There are a couple of possible reasons for black and white TV output. The most common is if the output format is set to NTSC rather than PAL. NTSC is the TV standard used in the US, whereas PAL is used in Europe. If you output an NTSC signal to a PAL TV the result is black and white playback.

To change the output on your TV card, right-click your desktop and select Properties. Switch to the Settings tab and click Advanced. The next step will vary according to the brand of TV-out card installed. Sadly, we were unable to track down your model number to find out which TV card is installed in your particular laptop, so we advise that you look for the entry that relates to the TV monitor output ? for example, on nVidia cards this is called nView. In the Device settings, look for Device Output and change the entry from NTSC to PAL.

Another common cause can be encountered when using SCART to connect to the TV. Some PC outputs, which are typically S-Video, come with S-VHS to SCART adapters to enable greater compatibility with European TVs. With SCART, a common problem is that when one of the pins becomes damaged or indented, the display can revert to black and white. Take a look at the SCART plug and examine the pins. If one is indented, use a pair of tweezers to pull it out to the same height as the others and try the connection again.

sup, try looking if any of the small rods from the connector/end of the S-video cable are bent or missing. this happened to me and i saw that 1 of my rods from the connectors/end was missing. i forced to connect it and it snapped off 1 of the rods which caused it to be Black/white.? :-)

Just want to hijack this thread.

I have the exact same problem, but dennis00 missed the bit that the original poster said.

When you boot up the PC, the windows logo IS in colour, it only goes to black and white once the desktop appears, so it can't be one of the rods in the s-video port

Anyone have any other ideas?
