I tried to use a reinstallation disc for another computer on the computer before but it wouldn't let me. The disc was for the same service pack, year, and company that the computer is. Is there anyway I can install files or anything onto a disc from this computer and put it onto the other?

The computer is on a FAT format partition.

There is no way of knowing which files are corrupt and at the end of the day the registry is probably the most corrupt thing in which case the only way to resolve that would be to reinstall.

Had ME on it when bought and had XP service 2 pack version 2002 installed on it.

Everytime I turn it off and back on and it does the check file system before it restarts from the stop error it says the \pagefile.sys entry contains a nonvalid link. windows replaced bad clusters in file \pagefile.sys of name (null). the size of \pagefile.sys entry is not valid.
It freezes after 7 percent is done.

Slight confusion, you say that you bought the laptop with Windows ME on it.

Did you then upgrade to Windows XP or did you just install the XP service pack?

The computer is my boyfriends and from what I know it was bought with ME on it and had XP put on it in 2002.

My boyfriend got the lap top working again but with the errors. He said he turned it on and left it on for a few hours and the dr. waston kicked in and got it working. I'm doing a disk defragmenter now. Says it has 37% free space 5.15GB. I was wanting to know if the program you suggested for the add/remove programs installs the old programs back or has it where you can restore them? I was wanting to see and make sure there was no other programs deleted that weren't suppose to be.
