When i try to boot my pc up just before i get to the user login screen my computer comes up with these popups

"the application has failed to start because SHELL32.dll was not found. re-installing may fix this problem"

another comes up saying

"The logon user interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load."

then the computer reboots and says the same again.

also ive tryed to start it up in safe mode and return to last state mode when it was working, but it comes up with an error aboiut that internet explorer has encountered a problem and then freezes on both occasions. (probably becasue ive heard that shell32.dll is associated with IE in some way.)

I could reformat with my packard bell master disks (becasuse i lost the xp ones) but to be able to backup all my files i need to be able to get into windows. is there anyway i could re-install shell32.dll or reformat to backup all my files.

@Merlin, is there a way for him to affect the start up files or boot.ini from the command prompt? Perhaps he could remove the Shell32.dll from trying to load, same with the msgina.dll? That could get him past the loading process and at least let him get his files. What do you think?

But for both problems i think you really need an windows install disc to do anything.
