Hi,
i have an ibm pentium 3, 866mhz 512mb ram
i have windowsw ME Os and it used to run ok, then when i went on holiday for a week when i come back everytime i leave it idle it either restarts itself or goes into standby, but when it goes into standby the only way to wake it up is to power it off.
I used to have the same model and it did exactly the same it worked fine till i left it off for a week while i went on holiday adn when i got back this happened.
I have tried Avg, trendhousemicro, adaware and spybot searches andall are clean, i have defragged and scandisked and its fine, there are no hardware faults i can think of and i have all power management settings to never so any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me insanse.

Thank You.

:-D Hey Retrospect,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a whole team of wonderful people on this site, and I am sure that we are going to be able to help you figure this out.

Being an ex ME user myself I can commiserate. Unfortunately, when this type of thing happened to me it was back to the System Restore cd to reinstall ME.

ME is an extremely unstable OS, and if at all possible I would recommend upgrading to XP, (I know, it's a big hassle, and it takes time etc. But believe me you will be much happier.) Other than that, I am afraid that chances are you will continue to have to go back to System Restore.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey,

At this point i have to say, whenever i try to system restore it comes up with an error and does not let me so thats out of the window, i have an encrypted pc that means that Xp doesnt work so its ME or 98SE on which most of my programs wont work so its ME.

The only thing i can think of is reinstalling ME but its alot of hassle and if theres an alternative id rather try that.

Thanks for the reply :-)

Hope some1 can help

Retrospect.

Hi Retro,

Sorry, I haven't responded more quickly, unfortunately, I can't find any other alternative for you other than reinstalling ME. When I had ME I beleive I had to reinstall it five times in three years, that's why I upgraded to XP.

I am curious, when you say that your PC is encrypted, have you ever completely reformated it and tried to install XP? Usually the encryption has to do with Restore, of course you won't be able to get back to ME again (Oh Darn lol ) But I am fairly certain that once the wipe is complete, the encryption goes out the window.

What type of PC do you have?

When you formatted your system did you also delete and then recreate your partition?

If not give that a go, boot off your XP CD and delete all partitions, then create a new primary partition and install XP
