Default Cannot boot my PC

Hi, im new here, I couldnt find anything relevent in the previous posts...
Yesterday my PC worked fine... This morning there was no POST beep...
I have had similar problems before and I was told it had something to do with static buildup.
I dont have enough $ to take the PC to get checked. It took them about 5 mins last time anyway, and cost me $100
was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice, ways to discharge static buildup?

Howdy Fassit

Would you be able to explain how far your PC gets when you turn it on. Does anything come up on the screen e.t.c

Have you installed any new hardware recently?

Hi, i managed to find out what i needed to do to discharge the static.
unplugged it from the power, unplugged the power to the motherboard and held down the start button for 30 seconds. Held down the button some more after i plugged the power back to the mb.
booted fine after that. Problem now is, its happened again, with in 2 - 3 hours of discharging it.
So im kind of guessing that my mb is stuffed

When it wasnt booting, there wasnt any video, no beep.. nothing.
Power was on, fans were running, but thats as far as it went.

Sorry i didnt respond sooner.. was staying away from anything electrical in case i threw it out a window

Hopefully this info might be of use to someone else.
Thanks,
Fassit

I'm afraid to say that holding down the Start button for 30 seconds while the PC is off will do nothing at all to the machine.

The reason the "static discharged" was because you had removed the power from the back of the machine...

It sounds like your power supply might be faulty, do you have another machine or a friends machine that you could borrow power supplies from just to confirm that that is where the problem is!

hrrmm... I dont have access to another PC unfortunately. only my laptop.
i had actually tried unplugging the power and holding the button,(and many similar combinations) but it had no effect. It wasnt till i tried taking the power from the mb and holding the power button that i got any result.
that being said...
its done it again. Twice now.
My girl friend was playing the Sims.
When she tried to exit the game, the screen auto adjusts, then goes blank... fans are still running, lights are on at the front... but i cant get any response from it.
I had to force-shut it down. when i re-booted i was back to square one.
So i went through the discharge thingo again, and it worked...
but now its blank [i]again[i]
I know if i do the discharge thing again it will work... but why would it be doing this?
could it have something to do with my graphics card?

Fassit.

Yes, I would also agree that its propably your power supply :-(

Maybe its an old PSU and is just on the fritz, maybe you installed recently more hardware and the power unit doesnt have enough output power??

It would be smart to use an extra/or friends psu to 'test' the stability out and see if thats your problem...

If not...it wouldnt hurt to look for a nice, but cheap power supply online www.newegg.com

I think i found a decent 500w PSU for 60$ buck or so...thats pretty good!
