Default Laptop Blue screen crash. Help please.

I have been suffering blue screen crash on my laptop, its a 0x0000007 error, and after some time and a failed memtest, decided to change the RAM, I have and still have experienced crash problems. I decided to do a clean install of XP Pro, and the system crashes before the initial set-up files are copied, I have got as far as formatting with ntfs quick, and still the install will not load. I now have a system with Bios, but with no OS, and it will not re-install, any ideas what the problem might be? I have just tried to run memtest again on the new RAM, but got 40% done and just shuts down. The last Error code was an 026. I am in the process of loading a maxtor test? onto a floppy on another PC.
Its an Advent 7012 2.6 ghz. 512 Ram. XP Pro.
Thank you.

Update: When i load from ide i get an NTLDR Mising message.
When I load the maxtor disc on floppy, i get a Cannot read DOS message.
It will start to load an XP install from CD ROM, then, just shuts down or returns to re-boot.

:-) Hi Erdebear,

Welcome to PCHF, we have a lot of very knowledgable people on this site and I am sure that we will be able to help you resolve your problem.

Wayne's link may help you resolve the NTLDR problem. My suggestion would be to follow the instructions for XP install written by one of our brilliant techs, Merlin, I used it on a PC that I couldn't even get to upgrade from FAT and was able to change to NTFS because of his instructions.

Here is the link. Give it a try, alon with the NTLDR fix, and let us know how it worked for you.

Look forward to your reply,

Update:
Thank you for your time and help, I am in the UK so i guess there is some time delay.
I read the NTLDR Missing document. I tried booting from a copy of 98se but could not get a DOS prompt to make the changes that were described, so i loaded 98 on the PC with no real problems and then I have re-installed XP and so far so good, it is running and i shall monitor it and see how it goes, the XP setup did not allow me to create partitions as described in the XP set-up guide also given on this forum, so i am not able to optyimise the set-up, I shall get another copy of XP and try again.
Again thank you and i will let you know how it goes.

:-D Glad to hear things worked out for you.

As someone who upgraded from ME to XP, I can guarantee that you will be much happier in the long run if you take the time to back up all of your data and do a complete reformat as described.

It's cleaner and works much faster.

We'll look forward to hearing from you, in the mean time, I am going to mark this as fixed.

See you in the forums.
