Default [RESOLVED] xp setup issues... :/

well hey all. ?i hope u can give me some sort of an answer to my problems. ?first off, i have put many computers together and do a bit of pc repair myself so i should know what u are talking about (hopefully), but i have never seen these two problems before. go figure it happens when i decide to work on my own computer ?:banghead:.

so i got a new hard drive and instead of putting win98 on it, i decided to put xp on it (getting rid of old drive completely). ?so i bought the upgrade version of winxp, stuck the disc in, it loads the files, restarts and bang "NTLDR is missing ? Press ctrl+alt+del to restart" comes up. ?never have i seen this before so i i look it up on the internet, and ask around a bit. ? most people i talked to said reformat and try again. ?most things i read on the internet said blah blah with a boot disc (don't have one) or revert to previous operating system (new hard drive so can't do that...). ?so i reformated and stuck the xp disc in and now i get this everytime i start the setup "File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe couldn't be loaded. ?The error code is 7." ?i have never in the last 3 years of putting compouters together for people seen either of these messages. ?need any other info let me know exactly what it is.

help me plz. or this will soon happen ?

Hello Joe  welcome to PCHF.

Try this app to make sure youre HD is completly empty and clean before trying to re-install again:

http://www.killdisk.com/

Also make sure the windows disc isn't dirty or damaged.

I don't think you can use a cd , afaik it only works from a floppy.

EDIT; they also have a 2.3mb cd version.

If you get that "NTLDR is missing Press ctrl+alt+del to restart" again even after using Killdisk then have a look here:
